CARTOONS

BY HUNT EMERSON

Handsworth by Midnight

Handsworth by Moonlight – Hunt’s first Handsworth drawing, shows a parade of our amazing rich heritage led by Boulton and Watt, with Soho House, the Nishkam Gurdwara, the Library, the Mosque and Holy Trinity Church in the background, and the allotments, Handsworth Park, and our fine St. Mary’s Parish Church to the fore.

GRA Map

Around 2005, Hunt was asked to make this map of the Grove Residents Association area. Although many of the businesses and shops have changed since then, the traffic problems around Albert Road are still the same.

Hune the Saxon

Handsworth is mentioned in the Domesday Book, as Hune’s Sworde. It seems that Hune was a Saxon who cleared the land and settled here, probably where the Handsworth Park’s boating lake now is.

Historical Characters from Handsworth

Handsworth Creative have a long term plan to make a history of Handsworth in comic book form. This drawing features some of the local characters whose stories would feature in the comic book.
