Guided Tours of Handsworth Park Art Trail
From September to November 2021 free guided tours were organised around Handsworth Park Arts Trail for members of the public, local community groups and primary schools.
The tours were led by local artists who have lived and worked in Handsworth for many years and gave a special insight into the background of each artwork along with a history of Handsworth Park.
The guided tours were followed by free refreshments served in the Sons of Rest Building where participants could share their impressions of the artwork and learn more public art in other parts of Birmingham.
Tours for primary schools and families were followed by a clay modelling activity session, where children could make their own mini sculpture of what they would like to see in the park.

“My partner and I joined the Art Trail yesterday afternoon and found it very enjoyable and informative. It was especially nice to be walking with Pauline Bailey, one of the Curators of the Arts Trail as well as our Guide. A big pat on the back to everyone who created the Arts Trail and of course all the many others who were involved.”

“I just wanted to say what a fabulous morning we had at Handsworth Park. It was lovely to discover and discuss the artists’ work in such a beautiful setting, learn a little bit about their backgrounds and glean some Handsworth Park history, too. Jan and Ola were fabulous guides, the children really loved their sculpting experiences, and staff were amazed by the results. Thank you for the refreshments, the maps, your patience, and time.”
